Don't get caught out - scam phone calls are about

I am writing to you today following a call from a local Greenwich borough resident.  Today they received a phone call and was suspicious about the validity of it.  So they did the right thing, they ended the call, called Action Fraud and their bank and then told us!

So what happened?

They received a called from a man with a foreign accent, claiming to be DC Howard from the MET police major fraud team based in Hammersmith.  But today they were calling from Charing Cross Police Station custody suite because they had arrested a man from Swanley who had taken £500 and then a further £3,000 from their account.  

The man asked if they had their bank card in front of them so they could confirm details and when they told them they didn't they asked them if they had a carer.

The person who informed us, then hung up, but wanted us to share this with you as Action Fraud said these types oof scams were usually targeting a particular area.
